Social Media Change Makers – EVS Volunteering Opportunity in Bremen

Are you interested in social media management and ready for 6 months of volunteering in Germany? NaturKultur e.V. is looking for one EVS volunteer for the project “Social Media Change Makers”!

Dates: 01.06.2019 – 30.11.2019

Location: Bremen, Germany

Background of the project

Volunteering is generally based on values of support and solidarity, which are essential for building a more united and open-minded Europe. In times of crisis, difficulties and heated discussions in Europe, different forms of media have significant effects on people. Especially considering the power of social media, media literacy has become a core skill that needs to be fostered among young people to ensure that there is no room for hate speech and fake news, but space for adequate information and all the benefits that come with a globally connected world.

Social media has become one of the most influential sources of information for the young people of today and this EVS projects aims to use this tool to motivate young people to become more involved in their local and regional communities by volunteering.

Goals of the project

  • To provide young people with information about the concept and importance of voluntary work in general, specifically regarding the Erasmus + Programme
  • To increase young people’s skills in social media literacy
  • To boost the involvement of young people in every day local activities
  • To enhance the skills of the EVS volunteers in areas of their interests, to give them space to implement their own ideas and projects
  • To strengthen the activities of local organizations in Bremen and create working opportunities in intercultural and multilingual surroundings

This project will be focused on two points:

  1. The volunteer will work on creating an online community by providing regular community-oriented content and identifying the needs of their audience to create a stable and long-lasting relationship with their followers. This will result in more involvement of the local community in the activities that the hosting organizations are doing, better integration of the groups of people in the local society and raising awareness in the local community for the help and support of those groups
  2. The volunteer will help with office work and activities that are related to their projects, such as updating the webpage, helping local volunteers to organize events and promoting voluntarism, doing community based projects, non-formal education and Erasmus+ and ESC opportunities.

Your hosting organisation

Your daily voluntary work will be at Friedehorst, a diaconal institution that provides competent help, trusting care and individual support to children, young people and adults. Founded in 1947 on a former barracks site in Lesum, the facility now offers a variety of opportunities and is unique in this form in Northern Germany. With around 1,400 employees who take care of around 2,000 people each year, Friedehorst is one of the largest employers in Bremen-Nord. Their activities span from helping children, to adults to older people, so the volunteer will have their hands full of social media posts and supporting the community with great and meaningful content.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Working with a variety of people: children, youngsters, adults, people with physical dissabilities
  • Working as a community manager: updating the homepage, social media platforms, writing a blog post / recent reports about the activities at Friedehorst
