Marie in Bremen // 2nd Report

Hey!

I’m coming back after a couple of months to write my second report. Reading what I wrote after my first four months in Bremen feels weird. I was still discovering, and I was one of the “new volunteers”. The volunteers that show me the city and brought me to my first parties finished their volunteering and left. I am now the flatmate that is showing how the heating system works. I can feel this volunteering circle (arriving and being introduced then welcoming and introducing newcomers then leaving) and see how my confidence has grown. I feel home here, in my house, in my job, and in Bremen.

The atmosphere with the volunteers is still amazing. Even trough our own routines we find time to spend together. Either going on parties in the city or just for a quiet evening at one of our flats. I can see the general vibes changing with old volunteers going and new ones coming. Everyone is bringing their own personal touch in our group, and they are more than welcome to do so!

I started traveling around Germany to visit the friends I made on my seminars. I visited Berlin, Oldenburg, Osnabruck, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, next one on the list is Stuttgart! Lots of them also came to Bremen to visit the city 🙂 .

The summer is coming strongly, and I am so happy to spend more time outside. At school the kids are running the whole time outside. We are building huts, and planting vegetables, flowers, and herbs. We are witnessing the bees and the lady bugs coming back, the birds singing the whole day, and the plants growing.

Since January I started a role play game with some kids, and I have lots of positive returns. We will finish the adventure just before the summer holidays and I hope someone will keep on playing with them next year. Anyways, I’m happy to have had the opportunity to make them discover this universe!

The summer holidays are drawing near and with them the end of my volunteering year. I have started looking for master’s degrees in France and in Germany. This year made me grow so much and brought back in my life some purpose. I came here not knowing what I would like to do in my life, and now I am fixed. My wishes for the future will probably evolve, still I have the feeling that the biggest think I discovered here is myself.

Wish you all the best,

Marie
