Maite in Bremen // Final Report

As my time as a volunteer in Bremen draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on what has undoubtedly been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. When I first joined this project, I was navigating a particularly emotionally vulnerable period. However, connecting with individuals with disabilities and working to promote their personal autonomy has brought new meaning and purpose to my life. I will genuinely miss them.

Throughout my volunteering journey, I had the privilege of developing a diverse skill set. I learned how to communicate effectively and empathetically by engaging with people of varying abilities, and I recognized the importance of understanding and compassion. I became adept at tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs and situations of each individual, fostering their independence. The challenges I faced helped me grow in patience and adaptability.

Volunteering has profoundly transformed me on a personal level. By stepping outside of my comfort zone and engaging with individuals facing different challenges, I have developed a deeper empathy and understanding for others. This experience has taught me to appreciate the little things in life and find joy in helping those around me.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the volunteering organization NaturKultur, its collaborators, and my fellow volunteers. I will carry the memories of our time together with me and hope to stay in touch. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this incredible journey.

Maite was hosted by Tagesförderstätte at Friedehorst Teilhabe Leben gGmbH on our project co-funded by the European Union.
