European Voluntary Service in Spain, March 2019 – March 2020

Are you ready to relocate to Spain for 12 months? We are looking for 3 volunteers who are motivated to work with young people in the beautiful region around Madrid and Toledo! If you are keen to experience a new working environment and culture, are passionate about active engagement in society and know how to motivate young people, this is your perfect EVS project!

Dates: March 2019 – March 2020 (start as soon as possible)

Location: Numancia de La Sagra (Toledo, Castilla La Mancha), Spain

What is the project about?

The project will take place in a group of municipalities between Toledo and Madrid. In this region, especially young people grow up with less opportunities and long to move to the big cities. Our plan is, with this project, to work towards identifying what young people in the region need, how we can connect them with their communities, and offer them opportunities and spaces to become more active and engaged in community life.

Our previous experiences with EVS projects in the are have proven that the presence of European youngsters plays a key role for the opening of eyes towards the local and international possibilities. At the same time, EV volunteers will experience their own transformation and identity-changing proves by being in contact with difficult, challenging but also passionate tasks and situations.

In short, the project targets are:

  • to tackle lack of motivation and satisfaction of youngsters in the region
  • provide inspiration for active engagement
  • to find out more about the needs of youngsters in the region
  • to organise cultural and social activities for them

What would I do every day?

The 3 volunteers will join the youth and social services in three different towns and collaborate with the Proyecto Kieu team in Numancia to help with different community, social and cultural activities. Other than that, the tasks include:

  • administrative tasks
  • develop a strategy of how to find out about the youngster’s needs in the region and implement it
  • project management tasks related to EVS projects for youngsters in the region
  • promote the civic participation of youngsters in the region
  • develop the Youtube channel of our organisation, network with local media
  • develop cultural events, such as cultural weeks in collaboration with other local organisations
  • implementation of own projects according to your interest and skills
  • work with young people age 14-25

You will also be enrolled in a Spanish language course online to assist you with the language learning, and regularly meet your mentor and coordinator in order to guide you through the project.

Where would I live?

Your accommodation will be organised and paid for by your host organisation. You will live in a shared house with other EVS in your own or a shared room. You will receive a monthly grant for food, and the house is equipped with all necessary utilities.

What is my hosting organisation like?

Proyecto Kieu is a small NGO located in a small village. Since 2010, we are working on topics like active citizenship, human rights and development. We help youngsters with their personal development by providing activities and non-formal learning opportunities that target their emotional, social and interpersonal skills. We organise international and local projects for young people in the region and collaborate with town councils and other local groups and organisations.
